From the Directors Desk:
Art is a very wide term and every individual may derive a different meaning of Art according to their realization, understanding and thought processes. However, in general, Art may be defined as creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Tagore once said, “ART is the response of man’s creative soul to the call of the Real.” Rabindranath Tagore, being a poet, writer, novelist, musician and a painter, I believe, he has been the closest of all in defining ART.
How Arts and Academics go hand in hand
"Each child is an individual. They all have different traits, which need to be brought out. That's certainly a function of our school - to cultivate that individuality."
"The role of the school is changing,"
"More and more asked of the schools and the teachers, but there isn't more and more time or more and more resources to help. They are asked to do more and more with less and less."
"I firmly believe in a well-rounded education."
"I think it's our job as public educators. We need to offer opportunities for core academics, but students also need to find out things like what is available in building trades and what role visual arts can play in their lives. The arts often are sidelined these days in an educational landscape of soaring expenses and standardized exams. As school officials across the country take the red pen to their arts budgets, they generally reason, "How do we justify the time and expense of music, dance, or drawing when we have benchmarks to meet and little money to spend?"
"There's a deep-seated belief here that art allows young people to develop a creative and entrepreneurial understanding of the world".
Using a carefully calibrated mix of classical arts training with visual art streams, this academy aims to help teens become capable, creative men and women -- artists and scholars with a faculty for self-reflection and the drive to continually refine their work. Arts and Aesthetics are not separate endeavours here; they are deeply connected disciplines, and teachers draw on the rigors of one to feed another.
Benefits of Visual Arts in every field
Always among the highest expression of every culture, the arts teach us much about every historical period through its literature, visual arts, music, dance, and drama. Today it is recognized that to be truly well educated one must not only learn to appreciate the arts, but must have rich opportunities to actively participate in creative work. The arts are languages that most people speak, cutting through individual differences in culture, educational background, and ability. They can bring every subject to life and turn abstractions into concrete reality. Learning through the arts often results in greater academic achievement and higher test scores.Intensive arts training, far from being impractical and elitist, can prepare students for life and work by developing in them the general skills and attitudes, the habits of heart and mind they need to prevail in postmodern society no matter what career they chose.
